Merry Christmas!

How is possibly Christmas Eve Eve? I can only apologise for my absence after all those promises of cook ahead christmas recipes. Believe me, my absence has not been through choice, especially as I’ve not cooked a thing in the last two weeks alone.

You see, Hungry Hubby has had an awful accident. Let me rephrase that – a simple accident with an awful outcome. He came off his bike trying to get some brand new water proof pants he’d bought that day out of the chain and having flown through the air and landed on his right leg, some vagrant stood on the deformed limb three times and screamed at Neil for being in the road! I kid you not! Now I won’t be sharing the details but its been a hugely traumatic event for Hubby and he has managed to shatter the bottom third of his tibula and fibula (the two bones of your lower leg) and it goes into his joint space too. Aka – a big mess :( . He’s had multiple manipulations and surgery twice to external fixate his fracture. I have just had the message right now that he can finally come home once the physios have assessed him today! So I am one super happy smiley Jo Blogs after two weeks of uncertainty, worry and more mini-disasters then you’d believe.

Not to be left out, my Daddums has been in hospital too for planned surgery but it turned out to a much bigger op than he was told it would be and although he is home now, he’s still got a way to go before he can recover. As you can imagine – its been a stressful and worrisome time with not a spare minute between juggling hospital visits, organising at home and work so foodie fun has fallen by the wayside. M step mum has taken me under her wing and let me stay with her and my dad – she’s done all the cooking and can I tell you, I did not mind for one moment after 12 or 14 hour long days coming home to being presented with a glass of wine and a meal already plated up. Hubs and I will be staying with our folks over the remainder of the festive season as its too early to be getting him up and down the 53 stairs (he counted!) to our front door!

All my plans for Christmas cooking and baking have ceased from the moment Hungry Hubby had his accident and will not be recommenced I’m afraid. We will have to meet again next year to try again. I dare say once I’ve got hubs and his giant metallic caged leg home and settled, we’ll have our own celebratory (if somewhat overdue) Christmas meal in our own flat with our own decorations and that first real beautiful Christmas tree we bought together on the 1st of December this year. I will of course share that with you all. For now, it might be a few more weeks before I’m able to blog properly again as I can’t imagine I’ll be making anything blog worthy just yet but you will always be able to find me on Facebook.

Anyway, I must dash as I need to go pick up my bionic man and bring him home to my folks place. He has already requested a KFC Gladiator box meal to be picked up on our drive home from the hospital – if you weren’t sick before you had hospital food, you would be after the sorry ready meal-esque meals they brought him! ;) . There is a time and a place for home cooked food and a time for a naughty treat you know you’ll love to comfort and satisfy you. This is such a time.
So off I go! May I wish you and all loved ones near or far a very merry, happy Christmas filled with love, good food and warmth. Now that hubs is hours away from home I feel ready to enter the festive spirit and once again rejoice in the happiest time of the year!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Love Jo xxxxx

Aww Jo, you’ve had a horrid couple of weeks :-( I’m so glad you are finally getting your hubby home today, hope he isn’t in too much pain and you can both still somehow enjoy the big day, maybe not in the way you planned but at least you’ll still be together :-) You take care of that hungry hubby of yours and we’ll look forward to seeing some yumminess in the new year! Love ya my friend xx

Merry Christmas to you and yours too Nic. Ironically our Christmas gifts were bought before the accident so there will be cookbooks piling up for me and various things poor hubby can’t use because of his injury too lol. Oh well, the cage should be off by spring time – he can use them then! ;)

  4. Oh Jo you’ve really been tested to the max these past 2 weeks. Here’s to a healthier and happier new year for you and your family. Have a lovely Christmas you and Hungry Hubby deserve it. I know how you feel about not having blogged lots of Chistmas dishes, my plans went out of the window when I got Carpel Tunnel Syndrome which is luckily after physio showing signs of getting better!

Jo, I am so sorry to hear of your difficult time recently. So glad to hear HH is out of hospital in time for Christmas. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery, lots of pampering for you both over the festive period, and happier days of baking ahead of you in 2013. Merry Christmas!

wishing lots of happiness in the coming year to you and yours Jo. With love, Sylvia. (Minnie’s mum). Xx

  9. If falling off your bike wasn’t bad enough, I can’t believe someone would then assault him! I hope Neil will have a speedy, speedy recovery so you won’t have to spend all of your time working at a hospital and then also visiting your husband in one. I think you should still plan for your own Christmas dinner and, as you have suggested, have a belated special dinner just for you and your hubby. You both need something to look forward to :-) I hope you both have had a wonderful day so far, nevertheless, and all the best for Neil’s recovery. Txx

Just looked at your blog for the first time after seeing you in Good Food magazine. Not quite the blog post I was expecting to read! What an awful few weeks you and yout family have had. Hope things are improving now and that you managed to salvage some kind of Christmas in the middle of it all. Right, now to check out some older (and less dramatic) posts….!

I believe cod cheeks are a real delicacy too. I’ve had beef cheeks but that’s about it. Shin of beef – oh my, what flavour! The (formally) cheap cuts are the best!

Shin is amazing and definitely still cheap! I’ll have to see about cod cheeks…

So what do you think...?
